From my point of view this programme is designed to keep flipping going rather than stop it. They want to keep that crown and to keep it they need a high resell value. Rolex knows that the investor market is massive and Rolex is currently king. That makes more people join the list, drives up the grey market. It will drive more people to try and buy new, seeing a watch retail for £10k go on the certified pre owned for £20k etc.

This is to keep Rolex as unobtainable or appear as unobtainable as possible. I suspect what they are doing is releasing second hand watches with this certification so that they can sell them above grey market prices (or where the grey market was a year or so ago). What I think they are doing is inflating the second hand value of Rolex’s rather than deflating. We don’t deal with flippers that often at the shop, as we tend to stock more vintage and obscure watches but we do get a steady flow of Rolex’s in. I personally am not sure if this will have a big effect on the Rolex market, or at least not as big an effect as people think it will have.
